Happy Thanksgiving

I'm out of school for the next 4 days and am just getting ready to head up to my parents' for Thanksgiving. One of the many things I'm thankful for at this time of year is family and friends. I hope everyone has a a very "thankful" thanksgiving, and may you enjoy this special time with those you love!

As for me, I'm looking forward to spending time baking with my mom over the next few days.... I just bought everything for a pumpkin, pecan and cherry pies, and also sweet potato casserole.... YUM!! Tomorrow it'll just be my parents, Nate and Andrea and me for Thanksgiving dinner. Holly and Dan will be coming in Friday, and Brandon is coming in Saturday. We'll have a big family dinner Saturday afternoon when everyone is here! Friday we're going to go downtown Indy for the lighting of the Christmas "tree" (i.e. Monument... see pic below!)... that's always alot of fun!!

Anyway, I just wanted to take a moment to express my thankfulness for you..my friends and family. You are a blessing to me!!

I'll write more later....
Happy Thanksgving!!

Beauty

I think it's crazy but true how much we (girls especially) base our definition of beauty on what we see in magazines, tv, etc... why do we do that?? I confess it's sometimes easy for me to fall into that trap of comparing myself... what if I lost 15 pounds or wore this makeup or got my hair cut in this way... and on and on?? This will never lead to a right attitude!! How do we keep a right perspective then?? Two thoughts come to my mind: 1) Stop the comparing, and replace it with an accurate (God-centered) view of ourselves. Beauty is good. God created us, and said it was "good". He wants us to take care of ourselves. It's important to me to exercise, eat healthy ...I want to continue those habits (or get better at them in some cases :). I even want to try to look my best...when I know Brandon is coming to see me, I've found I just naturally want to look nice....I can't help it! I think God is honored by those attitudes, but he hates when we compare ours...

Aiden's 1st Birthday Party - Sat, May 29th.

Aiden's birthday party was so much fun, and I wanted to share some pictures from his party (over two weeks ago now, but better late than never, right?!)  It was a great time with family and friends and we have much to be thankful for.  We had a backyard BBQ, cake inside, and then headed back outside for Aiden to open gifts.  The Birthday Boy and his cake table!! I did a "Very Hungry Caterpillar" theme because he loves books, and this is a book that's been very special to me.  The favours were gummy worms in bags that said: "Thanks for 'inching' your way to my party, Love, Aiden".  I got the idea for the caterpillar cupcake cake online, along with several other ideas, and loved how it turned out.  I covered cardboard with white butcher paper and painted "Happy 1st Birthday Aiden" on it for the cake board.  I used Red and Leaf Green Icing Color (rather than regular food coloring) to get the rich color, and piped the icing on with a i...

I guess I need a new name for this old blog...

Whew... I have this funny habit of blogging for a few months, stopping for a couple years, then starting back up ... hmmm.  I guess I've been busy.  Since I last wrote, we've added a second little boy to the family.  Hudson Loyal - born May 22, 2011.  "Hudson" because both Brandon and I love the name.  It means "son of Hud" .... how profound, right? :)  But to us it also represents the famous missionary to China who also had the same last name.  Loyal was my maternal grandfather's name.  He was a faithful, "loyal", quiet, hard-working, outdoors man who lived all his life in Wisconsin and worked on the farm and in the fire tower (do I have that right, mom?).  Hudson is not so little anymore - he's 8 months now.  He is our sweet gift from God.
